THE CURRENT SHELTER

A MAKESHIFT SPACE

Our current shelter rooms have walls that have become stained, chipped and worn. Top bunks can are difficult to access, and floors are worn and weary from repeated use.

AN UNWELCOMING LANDING

Survivors arrive to furnishings showing signs of age, mattresses which are uneven and the springs worn.  Despite regular upkeep, the rooms are difficult to make welcoming and bright because of their age and wear.

UNPLEASANT SURROUNDINGS

Uncomfortable spaces cause people to retreat into themselves. An airy, bright, and inviting space brings hope, a safe space, and room to regroup and refocus.

THE FUTURE SHELTER

OUR DREAM CONCEPT

A SAFE PLACE

Bright. Soft. Comfortable. Cozy.

The rooms you provide are custom built for our survivor's needs. Students from KU's Department of Design are helping us to create rooms unique to our shelter, which will provide that necessary safe space.

ROOM FOR BELONGINGS

Consulting with survivors, rooms will feature adequate but less harsh lighting, storage space that is accessible but also functional, and small but important details like individual night lights and bedside storage spaces.

OUR DREAM CONCEPT

EVERYONE HAS A PLACE

We welcome all survivors at The Willow, and therefore we strive to provide a space where people from all backgrounds will be as comfortable as possible. A safe space to sleep is the first step in the long process of rebuilding and empowering lives at times of great crisis. Your help can make this change happen.
